David used his maiden speech to highlight the exodus of young people from Somerset – currently three quarters leave the area after they complete their full-time education. If Somerset is to keep hold of its best and brightest, then we need to offer greater career choices, vocational job prospects, further education, apprenticeships and training.
In 2014, David held a jobs and housing fair in Frome to link young people with the key resources they need. Having advised many small businesses and charities, David knows they need mentoring, access to finance, decent broadband connectivity and confidence in the future to offer exciting opportunities for young people. By gathering these organisations and apparently disparate areas of policy together, David wants to use his position in Parliament to help build a vibrant future for Somerset.
